The high-power wireless fast charging solution is a 15W Qi-standard wireless charging transmitter design (MP-A11 topology) built around the NXP WCT1013 wireless charging controller. NXP has obtained Qi 1.2.3 certification for this solution from an accredited Qi wireless charging certification body, so it is compatible with all Qi-standard receivers, including BPP 5W receiver devices. The software library is NXP's own certified library, which helps customers pass Qi certification with minimal effort. Comprehensive hardware and software support is available today, including hardware design guidelines and schematic libraries, software libraries and prototype software source code, enabling customers to bring up a wireless charging design quickly and pass Qi certification with ease.

Solution Overview

The functional block diagram of the high-power wireless charging solution is shown below. The main controller is the dedicated DSC-core processor WCT1013. The power inverter transmit stage can be implemented either with a discrete pre-driver plus full-bridge circuit, or with the single integrated PCA9440 (NXP's companion wireless charging driver IC); the discrete approach can in theory deliver higher output power. The protocol communication hardware is extremely simple, relying mainly on software encoding/decoding in the WCT1013 to reduce hardware cost. Voltage and current sensing supports the FOD function, while temperature sensing provides over-temperature protection for the wireless charger.
